The hobbit-compare and review

The computer game:

I really liked the computer game! I only got one class to play it, so I didn’t get very far at all but it was lots of fun. At first I found it hard to control and got annoyed by it. Butt, I got used to it quickly. There were also a lot of different things that were confusing, like when you need the stick out and when you don’t or just little games I didn’t understand. I guess I didn’t get to play the game long enough to get used to that. It wasn’t a very difficult game, probably so children are able to play it. I think it’s aimed for children but it’s good for people reading the book or who have read the book at any age to play it too. It also helped to have the friendly characters along the way telling you what to do next. I loved the animations. They were very cute and well done. They are good for the little kids, because it is a dangerous journey but the characters make it fun. Even though I didn’t get near to finishing it (I barely started) I could tell the game wouldn’t be as scary as the book. Instead a fun way to learn about the story for kids.

The Hobbit

Filed under: Uncategorized —— belinda @ 5:09 am

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an ozzy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

being a hobbit-hole it was a warm friendly house. Although it was small, the hobbits found it just perfect. The reason for this may have simply been because hobbits are small creatures (about half our height), or maybe just because of the welcoming round door with a door-knob in the centre. Or, the way that when you enter the house you walk into a room filled with happy surroundings, or maybe even the big kitchen with a large table for plenty of guests (hobbits loved guests).

The hobbit which lived in this hobbit-hole on the hill was Blilbo Baggins, a very respected hobbit.

my country

Filed under: Uncategorized —— belinda @ 1:22 am

I love my home Australia
It’s where I like to live
For many, many reasons

Of some I’d like to give

I love our summer time
The squeaky sandy beaches
When we’re not in the water
In the rock pools we find many creatures

But summers not always surfing
When there’s not much heat
I sit down and watch the cricket
To see whom we can beat

Then winter brings a chill
And sometimes a lot of rain
I snuggle up by the fire
To watch a footy game

But that’s not all to do
Play games, see friends, or shop
 As long as you’re inside
You can’t feel the raindrops

My country has some bad things
Like people who do not care
They throw rubbish all around
Causing pollution everywhere

The rising petrol prices
Which not everyone can afford
Making it hard for business people
To keep running cost above board

Our water dams below average
With very little rain
But if we use water wisely
We really cannot complain

But defiantly overall
I love my land down under

From hot to raining days

Whether it’s humid or just thunder

A Hero!

Filed under: Uncategorized —— belinda @ 10:14 pm

A hero is defined by Joseph Campbell as “someone who has given his life to something bigger than himself.” The hero may set off on the adventure intentionally, like Beowulf or Sir Gawain, or the hero may be thrown into the adventure. However, the hero is always prepared for the journey. The hero’s life lessons have prepared him/her for the trials that will be faced while on the journey.

Some of the books, TV shows and movies i can think of that fit into category this are:

The TV show Smallville. I don’t know if you have seen it but it is about Superman. Basically it is about Clark Kent who has powers, but a normal life too. He goes to school, has lots of friends, and even has relationship problems. But, having so many friends means that when people are after him or trying to figuring him out, his friends get invovled too. So, he is always saving them and like a hero ‘Thinks of everyone else before himself’!

The Harry Potter movies. Surely everyone has seen or heard of them, and i think Harry is a hero. Always thinking of others first, helping people and always solving the mysteries. Now that is a hero! But also he is brave, caring and will do almost everything to protect his friends and family or even just anyone in danger!

i will be adding more…

Book Review

Filed under: Uncategorized —— belinda @ 5:07 pm

I did a talk about the book ‘My life is a toilet’ by Gretel Killeen.

The story is about a 15-year-old girl called Fleur Trotter dealing with the normal teenage problems as she grows up. Things such as boys, zits, but most of all…her family!

Her family is made up of her mum (who thinks she can knit everything and anything that you put in front of her) her step dad (who she calls the pip) her dad (who really hates the pip) her step mum (who is the reason her parents got divorced) and her two sisters. Her sister’s names are Elizabeth and Kate.

Her parents are divorced but still live in the same house and in another book of the series her grandma lives with them. But in this book Fleur and her family are going to visit her grandma because she is dieing.

On the way to her grandmas the car brakes down and they meet a family, Edwin, Edwina and Dwayne Pipe. The Pipes own a caravan park so while their car is broken they stay at the caravan park.

The author is Gretel Killeen, who as we all knows hosts the TV show Big Brother. That’s not all though, she has written about 22 books. She was born and grew up in Sydney and first started out writing books for her children but then she started getting them published around the world, and now they have became as success!

I really enjoyed the book; it was very funny and well written! I think it’s aimed for teenagers, probably girls between the age 12 and 16.

Juggling with mandarins!

Filed under: Uncategorized —— belinda @ 5:56 pm

We read Juggling with mandarins in english earlier this year.

The book is about Pip (Phillip) growing up and concentrating on what he wants.

The book deals with some issues, mostly for Pip. Pip gets sick of his dad pushing him in soccer without even realising it! He just wants his dad to be like the other parents and support him gently and to do the best he can, not what someone else could. Also, he realises how he feels bout his best friend Katie, who turns out to be more than a friend to him but does she feel the same way? Finally, dealing with the bullies like Jordan, who bullies Pip all of the time. Pip needs to find a way to face up to Jordan and not let those stupids names get to him.

I didn’t really enjoy the book. I don’t mean that it’s a bad book. I just don’t read very often, and when i do it’s usually books that are really funny or really exciting and surprising, like Harry potter.

I understood the whole book, it was pretty easy to understand. The good thing about the book is that it’s like so many teenages lives, thats probably why so many kids like it and why we read it in school.

My favourite character was probably Nick. I don’t really know why, i just like how he has a bit of a sense of humor. Probably also because he’s like so many guys i know! haha!

I actually thought in the end that Katie and Pip would either go out or just be friends. I mostly thought that she would realise that Jordan was mean and maybe using her, so she would go back to Pip in the end. But, maybe that’s why the aurthor made them not get back together, because that’s what lots of people thought would happen.

I think the book is called Juggling with mandarins because, well for starters, he does learn to juggle with mandarins but also because he’s juggling with things in his life. Such as, Katie, soccer, climbing, and his family.

talk to you all soon
